The Celle Palace

Enter into a princely world!

The Palace in Celle is one of the most splendid among the palaces of the Guelphs, one of the oldest still existing dynasties. First mentioned in 1318 as a “castrum”, during the following centuries this originally plain and simple castle has been altered and extended to become a magnificent four-wing building with a distinctive combination of Renaissance and Baroque styles.
The Palace accommodates not only the Residenzmuseum, but also the oldest baroque theatre in Europe still performing today as well as the Palace chapel, the only place of worship north of the Alps with completely preserved Renaissance fittings. A visit to the state chambers and the Palace kitchen is also included in a guided tour of the Palace.
