Deutsches Erdölmuseum / German Oil Museum

A thematic display of crude oil and natural gas extraction in Wietze.

On a 20,000 sq.m-section of a former oil field shut down in 1963, extraction and drilling equipment from the time around 1900 are exhibited on their original site.

An interesting permanent exhibition explains entertainingly the commodity crude oil, its extraction and its diverse use.

A reconstructed stretch of the crude oil mine demonstrates how crude oil in Wietze was also extracted from 300 m below ground.
