The Healing Herbs Garden

Short facts

  • Celle
  • public garden

A show garden and peaceful oasis on the edge of the historical old town

Celle’s Healing Herbs Garden is close to the town centre, set within the delightful landscape of the Dammasch meadow, on the banks of the river Aller. The Healing Herbs Garden was created in 2000. It was Celle’s town project as part of the World Expo: ‘The Seeds of the Future of Celle’. The garden is one of the largest of its kind throughout Europe.

The site measures around 7000 m² and is home to around 300 medicinal plants. Themed plant beds are dedicated to the herbal medicine specialists Hildegard von Bingen, Pastor Kneipp and Matthias Leisen.

There are other themed beds dedicated to aromatic and scented plants, poisonous and magic plants and many more.

Events that take place in the garden include regular plant markets, a summer festival, an apple festival, guided tours and seminars.

Cyclists, too, travelling along the River Aller cycle route, are invited to visit the garden, as a place to relax and explore.

The on-site KräuThaer café with its home-made cakes and specialty gateaux will round off your visit to the Healing Herbs Garden.
