Directions

This hiking route starts at the Pfennigbrücke in Celle. It goes past the Dammaschwiesen (river meadows) in the direction of Altencelle.  You can also visit the medicinal Healing Herbs Garden and discover its variety of medicinal plant species.

You walk along the "Aller", which continues to flow through natural landscapes, characterised by misty meadows and pine forests. After reaching the K 74 road, turn right towards Altencelle and as you cross this busy street, please, do take care!

From here, you cross the Aller bridge, walk along the Alte Dorfstraße and as you come into the village of Altencelle turn right.   Continue your walk along the Oehlmannsweg, keeping to the left until you come to the Gertrudenkirche (church). The Gertrudenkirche in Altencelle is the oldest surviving feature of Altencelle. You are welcome to visit the church, by prior appointment.  From the Gertrudenkirche the route leads back to the ducal town of Celle.

You walk to the left along the river Aller. From there the route continues to the right along the Philipp-Simon-Dawosky-Allee until you come to the Steintor. Turn right into the Fritzenwiese and you arrive at your starting point.

Tip

We recommend a visit to Celle’s Healing Herbs Garden, which offers a wealth of different medicinal plants. The adjoining café, "KräuThaer" is looked after by students from the Albrecht-Thaer School (agricultural specialists).  The delicious, home-made dishes based on popular, traditional recipes offer a tempting delight to the palate here.
